BEing You vs DOing You

We live in a world that celebrates productivity, performance, and the perfectly curated version of ourselves. It is easy to get caught in the pattern of doing you, ticking the boxes, playing the roles, wearing the masks that keep you accepted, validated, or in control.

Beneath all the layers, there is your true essence. Your deep inner knowing. Your soul presence.

This is the path of being you.

And the difference changes everything.

Doing You: The Masked Version

Doing You is an outside-in experience.

Doing You is the version of yourself that has learned, over time, how to fit in, how to stay safe, and how to keep others comfortable. To be what everyone else wants to see and experience.

It looks like:

  • Performing the identity you think you “should” have
  • Living from the outside in. Responding to expectations, rules, old conditioning
  • Trying to get life “right”
  • Measuring your worth through actions, achievements, or approval
  • Wearing masks: the capable one, the strong one, the peacemaker, the achiever, the helper
  • Ignoring your deeper needs because the world seems to prefer the polished version

When we are “doing” ourselves, we are often disconnected from our own truth. The nervous system tightens. The breath becomes shallow. The emotional body stores what is not expressed. The mental body spirals in self-doubt or overthinking. Spirit feels distant.

Doing You is not wrong it is simply a sign that you are trying to navigate life from survival patterns instead of authenticity.

Being You: The Unmasked, Whole, Present Version

Being You is an inside-out experience.

It is a softness… a remembering… a returning.

It looks like:

  • Living in alignment with your inner truth
  • Trusting your own experience over external expectations
  • Letting yourself feel, express, breathe, and be seen
  • Responding to life from presence instead of protection
  • Leading with your heart and inner wisdom
  • Allowing yourself to be imperfect, real, and human
  • Feeling whole because you are connected to yourself

Being You is not stillness .. it is aliveness.
Not performance .. it is presence.
Not identity ..  it is essence.

This is where flow, intuition, and deep emotional clarity arise.

The 5 Bodies: Where the Shift Happens

The journey from Doing You to Being You happens through the whole person, not just the mind, it also happens physically, emotionally, spiritually and energetically.

  1. Physical Body

The body reveals the truth instantly.
Doing You feels tight, braced, held.
Being You feels grounded, open, and relaxed through the breath.

  1. Mental Body

Doing You lives in stories and rules.
Being You invites clarity and spacious thinking.

  1. Emotional Body

Doing You suppresses or manages feelings.
Being You allows emotions to rise, move, and be expressed.

This is where cellular memory starts to unlock. All the old moments where you shut down, held your breath, abandoned yourself, or masked your truth. Breathwork and presence allow that emotional imprint to release so you can inhabit yourself fully again.

  1. Spiritual Body

Doing You is disconnected from your deeper knowing.
Being You connects you back to inner guidance, intuition, soul wisdom.

  1. Energetic Body

Doing You leaks energy trying to maintain appearances.
Being You frees energy and brings coherence, flow, and alignment.

Why We Wear Masks

Masks are not failures.
They are protection strategies developed when you did not yet have the safety, skills, or awareness to be fully yourself.

Masks form when:

  • We had to earn love
  • We were shamed for our sensitivity or intensity
  • We needed to stay small or quiet to keep the peace
  • We learned to prioritise others over ourself
  • We needed a role to belong

At the time, the mask helped us survive.
As an adult, it keeps us disconnected from our brilliance.

Removing a mask is not ripping anything off, it is a gentle remembering that we no longer need it.

Awareness: The Turning Point

The moment we notice the mask… the pattern… the tightening in the body… the people-pleasing reflex… the breath holding…

That is the moment of awakening.

Awareness is what shifts us from:

  • automatic reaction → conscious choice
  • performance → presence
  • self-protection → self-connection

Being You is not something we achieve.
It is something we relax into.

Getting to Know Yourself From the Inside Out

This is the real work.

To sit with your own breath.
To feel your emotions without running from them.
To trust your own knowing.
To listen to your body.
To honour your spirit.

This is emotional intelligence when lived through the whole self, not as a concept, but as felt truth.

The more you know your self from the inside out, the less you need to perform or prove anything.

You simply are.

Living From an Authentic Place

When we shift from Doing You to Being You:

  • You show up more honestly
  • You set boundaries with clarity and love
  • You stop apologising for who you are
  • You speak from your truth
  • You trust what you feel
  • You allow yourself to be seen
  • Life becomes less about managing and more about living

Authenticity is not loud or dramatic.
It is quietly powerful.

It is the deep exhale that says:
“I am home in myself.”

Being You is a lifelong unfolding.
A remembering.
A returning to your centre.
A reclaiming of the parts you left behind.

And every breath brings we closer to your own wholeness.

I deeply honour and acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi people on whose land I was born, live and work.
I acknowledge that the energy walked here through community hunting, birthing, and living under natural laws still remains and has been laid down in the land for all to benefit from.
I acknowledge their ancestors, past and present, who love, care and respect country and their ongoing connection to the ocean, rivers, earth, rocks and air and the balance of all life.
I acknowledge the Elders emerging who take care of the Spirit of this land through connection to the old ones.
Most of all I am grateful to the wisdom and culture of all First Nations people and what we can learn walking beside eachother as we come together from all lineages who were once connected to the land as they are.
