Finding Connection.

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on our connection as humans to the world around us, especially the other species we coexist with. Our lives are intricately woven into the same fabric as all living things, and in many ways, we mirror each other in how we live, move, and breathe together.

The Power of Connection Begins Within

One thing I’ve come to realise is that we often don’t take care of what we don’t feel connected to.

And that connection begins at home—with ourselves.

If we’re not connected to our own inner being, how can we truly care for and nurture the unique individuals we are?

Learning from My Own Disconnection

I speak from personal experience.

In the past, I felt so disconnected from myself that I overworked and burned out, relying on external activities to fill the void inside. I ignored my own needs, feeding myself with things that didn’t truly nourish me emotionally or physically. I was out of touch with my essence.

Returning to My True Essence

That’s why I made the choice to go inward.

It’s why I reconnected with my breath.

It’s why I spent time walking on Country.

I did these things to deepen my love for myself, and in doing so, I found that I could also love others and the Earth more deeply.

We Are Part of a Greater Whole

If we’re not connected to the heartbeat of the Earth and all the living beings that share this space with us, how can we truly care for and love the natural world that we’re part of?

There’s a scene in one of the Avatar movies where one of the Na’vi grieves the loss of her “sister,” the Tulkun (a whale-like creature). For her, the Tulkun was family. This idea resonated with me deeply—we are not separate from life, nor are we alone. All of life is our family.

An Invitation to Go Inward

This weekend, a new group of explorers will embark on the journey of the BT Level 1 Certificate in Breath Awareness. Over the next six months, they’ll dive deep into themselves, using the tools from the course to break through old patterns, thoughts, and behaviours that no longer serve them. It’s a chance for them to rediscover and connect with their true essence.

A Journey to Authentic Living

Yes, it’s deep work—but it’s necessary.

It’s time for all of us to move beyond the surface of what we think we know. We must dig deeper to see what’s truly underneath, to understand how we belong in the web of life, and to live authentically from that place of connection.

Otherwise, we risk spending our lives chasing after distractions without real meaning.

If you choose to take it, I’m on this journey with you.

Questions for Reflection

As you read this, ask yourself:

  • What is settling within you?
  • Are you finding a sense of peace and connection, or do you feel more unsettled than ever?
  • How might reconnecting with yourself and the world around you change the way you care for what truly matters?

Take a moment to pause, reflect, and consider where this path of reconnection might lead.

Rediscover your authentic self.

I deeply honour and acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi people on whose land I was born, live and work.
I acknowledge that the energy walked here through community hunting, birthing, and living under natural laws still remains and has been laid down in the land for all to benefit from.
I acknowledge their ancestors, past and present, who love, care and respect country and their ongoing connection to the ocean, rivers, earth, rocks and air and the balance of all life.
I acknowledge the Elders emerging who take care of the Spirit of this land through connection to the old ones.
Most of all I am grateful to the wisdom and culture of all First Nations people and what we can learn walking beside eachother as we come together from all lineages who were once connected to the land as they are.
