Are You Playing The Power Game?

Put your hand up if you have ever played in the persecutor in the PERSECUTOR – VICTIM – RESCUER triangle.

I have.

At times, I have been all three.

It’s the most played game in life, and it happens because we are humans with hangups and deeply seeded belief systems. We mainly spend our days reacting to life rather than relating to life.

We get caught up in trying to work out the lives of others, wielding our power because we have some unconscious need that makes us feel better. We are either the persecutors, standing over people and rescuing them even when they don’t need it, or playing small and letting others make our decisions for us.

“To be in your power WITH, rather than have power over others is the greatest power of all” – Jennylee Taylor

How do you know when you are playing the game?

When I go into RESCUER mode (thinking everyone needs saving):

  • I think I have the solution, and they don’t
  • I think I know better
  • I take away the other person’s power
  • I get tense and make more work for myself
  • I bear the burden of responsibility that is not mine

When I go into PERSECUTOR mode (My way or the highway and turning off my love to them):

  • I wield my power over them
  • I push people away
  • I don’t give people a chance
  • I manipulate others
  • I cut myself off from my heart
  • I have to apologise later

When I am in VICTIM mode (Everyone else is to blame, and woe is me!)

  • I give away my power
  • I stay small and don’t realise my potential
  • I manipulate others

As Conscious Leaders, the key is AWARENESS.

Do you recognise when you are playing in the PVR Power game?

Do you know how to step out of it and not get caught up in the energy of it?

  • It takes personal awareness
  • It takes emotional intelligence
  • It takes acceptance of Self and others

To be in your power and let others be in theirs is to:

  • Take responsibility for my actions, thoughts and feelings
  • Allow others to do the same and love them while they work it out for themselves
  • Understand there is more than one way to do something
  • Be willing to support people on their journey
  • Love and respect despite all invitations to do otherwise
Benefits of not playing the power game

Imagine not playing the game. What would life be like?
  • Everyone takes responsibility, and people have “control” over their life
  • Teams create more freely
  • Less energy is used protecting and defending and more energy doing and being more
  • People are happier and are more able to walk beside and support each other
  • Leaders are less burdened by “sorting out” the people’s issues

Everybody is standing in their power … what could be achieved then?

Rediscover your authentic self.

I deeply honour and acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi people on whose land I was born, live and work.
I acknowledge that the energy walked here through community hunting, birthing, and living under natural laws still remains and has been laid down in the land for all to benefit from.
I acknowledge their ancestors, past and present, who love, care and respect country and their ongoing connection to the ocean, rivers, earth, rocks and air and the balance of all life.
I acknowledge the Elders emerging who take care of the Spirit of this land through connection to the old ones.
Most of all I am grateful to the wisdom and culture of all First Nations people and what we can learn walking beside eachother as we come together from all lineages who were once connected to the land as they are.
